Sabinsa Successfully Defends Its Coleus Forskohlii Patent

PISCATAWAY, NEW JERSEY — Sabinsa Corporation today announced a victory in its campaign to vigorously defend its patent rights. The United States District Court for the District of New Jersey entered a judgment in a lawsuit brought by Sabinsa against GENI, Inc. (dba Good Earth Nutritional Ingredients) for infringing Sabinsa's patent on Forskohlin. ForsLean® is Sabinsa’s branded forskohlin composition that has been proven to promote weight loss through the generation of lean body mass.

The judgment states that Sabinsa's Forskohlin patent "is valid and was properly issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office." The judgment further provides for a permanent injunction prohibiting GENI from any further infringement of this patent. According to Sabinsa’s Senior Executive Vice President Mark Sysler, "this result was just and proper and should serve as a stern warning to anyone contemplating an encroachment upon Sabinsa's intellectual property rights that we have the wherewithal and are serious about aggressively protecting those rights."
